Banners to go on display at festival

15/09/2008 11:50:00 AM
Local kids became immersed in the Kids At Heart Festival banner-making workshop last week.

Tuesday’s session was the first of three being held in Wellington in the next two months. The children created pictures and painted their hand and footprints onto a large banner, which according to Early Childhood Co-ordinator Allison Grant, gives the children a sense of ownership. Five-year-old Sam Rich participated and drew a picture of a red and orange car.

“I like colouring in and drawing and folding,” he said.

Festival co-ordinator Angela Prior believes the event will make a difference.

“The festival will help awareness of early childhood and encourages children to speak out about certain issues, to make them visible in the community,” she said.

These workshops are part of the event to be held in Dubbo on October 25. The banners will be displayed at the festival and during the Wellington Children’s Week celebration on October 20 at Teamster’s Park.
