NAIDOC Day was celebrated at Wellington Primary School last Thursday with children participating in sport and activities during the morning.

NAIDOC stands for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’ and is held to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This year’s NAIDOC week theme is Advance Australia Fair?

The national NAIDOC committee chose this theme to encourage Australians to reflect on the cherished principle of a “fair go” for all to consider the inequalities still experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples Australia today.

A barbecue was followed by a ‘red faces’ competition in which much young talent was showcased.
