Wellington residents have been urged to have their say on the NSW Government’s controversial power privatisation plans.
Orange MP Russell Turner spoke out yesterday, following the coalition’s efforts to force a rural communities impact statement based on genuine consultation.
“Morris Iemma refused to take his controversial power deal to an election to receive a mandate from the people, and his government has consistently denied that there is any need for individuals in country NSW to have their say on this critical issue,” Mr Turner said.
“By conceding to the Liberal/Nationals Coalition demands, the Iemma Government has been forced into an embarrassing about-face on their privatisation plans.
“The Nationals and I have stuck to our guns on this issue, maintaining that any debate on electricity should remain transparent, and require real and meaningful community consultation.
“People in Wellington have very serious concerns about service levels, price rises and job losses if Morris Iemma pushes through his power privatisation, so this is their chance to be heard.”
Mr Turner said this was an opportunity for the people of NSW to voice their concerns on the issue.
