 Are you the biggest improver?

Are you the biggest improver?

Watch out Wellington, our very own version of The Biggest Loser is coming to town.

The Biggest Improver will be an eight week challenge run by Market Fitness in the style of the popular television show.

However, rather than focusing on hardcore Commando punishment and humiliating weigh-in sessions, gym owner Brett Conn wants to focus on incorporating a holistic approach to wellbeing, exercise and weight management. And no, it won’t be televised for the entire nation to see.

“This is not boot camp,” he said. “And we’re not focussing on the weigh-in. We want to promote fitter, healthier people.”

Already, the team at Market Fitness has some potential participants lined up and just like fitness gurus Shannon and Michelle, Brett and fellow instructor Donna Fuller will divide people into two teams for a bit of healthy rivalry.

Brett said the Biggest Improver would begin with an assessment to determine fitness levels and overall health.

During the course of the program, participants will be asked to write a food diary and exercise log and will be given nutritional advice from expert dietitian Kylie Tekell.

Brett believes almost anyone can benefit from being involved regardless of age, weight or workout background.

“We can’t guarantee anything but if they follow some simple rules, they will lose weight,” he said.

The program will be individually tailored to suit participants and will be incorporated into their lifestyle and existing activities. Brett said they would not be forced into anything life-threatening, but would be challenged if that was their aim.

“I wouldn’t push anyone into anything they didn’t want to do but I will push them if they want to be pushed.”

“We will also teach them how to make what they’re already doing more effective.”

There is a range of sessions and classes at Market Fitnes to suit most needs including circuit, weights and core training.

In case you weren’t already convinced, Brett insists that exercise is indeed fun.

“It releases endorphins which make you feel good,” he said.

The Biggest Improver starts next Thursday at 6pm. For more information call in to Market Fitness (open seven days) at the RSL Fitness Centre or phone 6845 1716.
