Riders set for one day event

27/06/2008 12:09:00 PM
With the completion of the new cross-country course at Geurie, Wellington Pony Club will host their inaugural one day event (ODE) this weekend.

More than 150 competitors will compete across the three disciplines of dressage, show-jumping and cross-country.

Distance has not deterred competitors, with entries received from across NSW.

The ODE will be held throughout the weekend, with riders of all abilities competing from E grade to the more experienced and challenging A grade level.

The dressage phase is held first and focuses on the horse and rider being able to demonstrate balance, rhythm, suppleness and obedience of the horse and the synchronicity of the horse/rider partnership.

The cross-country phase follows dressage, and further tests the depth of the horse and rider combination.

Horses and riders need to be fit, focused and brave to complete the challenges of the course which includes jumping through objects, into water and across and over stone walls and other obstacles.

This all has to be done within a given time frame.

Showjumping is the final test of the partnership between horse and rider with suppleness, obedience, fitness and athleticism combining to influence the end result.

After equine influenza forced the club to postpone plans to hold the event last year, Wellington Pony Club members have been eagerly awaiting their chance to show off the course which is an asset to the Central West equine community.

Wellington Pony Club would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the development of the course, and invites spectators to call in to the Geurie Racetrack and enjoy this event.

The ODE will be held from 10am to 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
