Paul Hingston from the high country of Orange and Reg Cunningham from the mountains of Oberon climbed to great heights to win, respectively, the B Grade (38 points) and A Grade (37) competitions at Bathurst Golf Club last Monday.

In his acceptance speech Hingston said “he owed a lot to his parents, especially his mother and father”.

Cunningham was likewise modest in his speech, stating “that this might not be the best round he had ever played but he couldn’t remember any better”.

The lowlanders from Bathurst dominated the trophy list as follows: Wes Burge (38 points), Peter Gannon (37) and Barry Mawhood, Mick McCormick, Wal Dean and Frank Smith on 36.

The Duntryleague mob got into the action with Kevin Flanagan, Steve Dunn, and John Brennan on 36 and Malcolm Campbell on 35.

Ex Services were represented by Roy Smith with 35 points and Marg Smith who won the ladies event with 32 from Cherie Gleeson from Duntryleague.

Closest to the pins were: Bob Bearup, Mick McCormick, Barry Mawhood and Jeff Haley.

Secretary Ron Simmons reports that the meals provided were very popular with the assembled throng.

Results from the Wellington event held on June 9 were: A Grade, Bill Lambert from Bathurst (36) and B Grade Les Rouse from Mudgee (36).

Marg Smith again won the ladies division with 32 points.

The next Vet’s event will be held at Duntryleague on July 7.
