Registration gets going for Walla

24/03/2008 12:43:31 PM
Wellington Junior Rugby Union is off and running after some successful registration sessions, and now it’s time for Walla to get going.

Walla registration kicks off tomorrow between 6pm and 7pm, coinciding with junior rugby training at Rygate Park.

Registrations will continue for a further two weeks, with parents to be notified of training commencement when the dates are finalised.

The club’s publicity officer Tim Woods said kids who got in early for registration would be up for a few bonus items in addition to the usual equipment included with registration fees.

“Registration will be $60 this year with a discount for families,” Mr Woods said.

“That fee will include rugby shorts and socks as well as a Brumbies mini-football, boot bag and jumper.

“The jumper sizes are limited and so are the numbers, so the earlier you register the better.”

Training for this year’s Walla teams will take place on Wednesdays between 5pm and 6pm, so pencil it into your diary and put some time aside.

Mr Woods also said parents should be advised of changes to Walla age groups after a recent meeting of the Central West Rugby Association.

“Walla age groups used to be under-9s, under-10s and under-12s.

“This year they have changed it to under 7s, under 9s and under 11s.

“They have completely removed the under 12 group, so anyone 12 years old or turning 12 this year has gone into the under 13s side, and this means they will get more matches and be able to spend an extra year playing with the older kids.

“It should be a lot more fun for them.”

Mr Woods is expecting a good turnout this year for Walla, particularly after the junior rugby registrations went so well.

“We got good numbers in every group but we’re still desperately looking for a few more under-15s,” he said.
