Congratulations to the Wellington parents and players for braving the freezing conditions at Cumnock last weekend.
The four Wellington teams had great success with all four teams making the semi-finals.
The under 8s green team of Hamish Poole, Brianna Trappett, Henry Ponder, Shania Sarsfield, Tyrone Forty, Keiran Baker, Jim Barton, Ryan Miller, Felicity Langlands and Charlie Wilson had a great day at the carnival.
The players improved as the day went on as they started to learn to play together for the first time.
They were unlucky in their semi-final, narrowly going down to the Milthorpe Tigers 1-nil.
Congratulations to all players and their families for the efforts and of course their support.
Both under 10 teams played well coming in second and third after the round robins, but unfortunately they had to play against each other for the finals spot.
This was a tough game with the score nil-all at half-time but the Blues’ Jack Baker, ever-ready Telisha Madden, Simon Slacksmith, TJ Bell and Bradon Madden finally cut through the defence of the Reds’ very tired Nicholas Trappett, Yamirra Talbot, Lincoln Blackhall, Tara Miller, Mathew Duttfield and Tim Wighton.
The Blues then went on to take out the tournament.
All players can hold their heads high for outplaying their opponents.
After the round robins, the under 12s finished first in their grade.
This team played exceptionally well and between Ngahla Talbot, Harry Wighton, Lachlan Brown and Telisha Madden, landed a massive 17 goals in three games.
Gary Sarsfield’s efforts in defence and his support all day was strong.
The under 12s played the SJ Wild Ones from Orange in the final.
They were three up on a very tired Wellington team who had no subs all day.
Telisha scored a goal for a comeback but was unfortunately taken out two minutes later and replaced by Yamirra Talbot.
Nicholas Trappett came out of goal to help on the park and put in an exceptional effort.
Thank you to Tim Wighton and Simon Slacksmith who also helped the under 12s during the day and backed up for the 10s.
The players are commended for their good sportsmanship and community spirit shown on the day, all caring and looking out for one another.
A great day was had by all.
Thank you to Harold Baker and Paul Miller for putting up their hands and refereeing on behalf of our club at the carnival, doing a fine job.
Three cheers for Wellington.
