More than 100 people turned out to see the town’s swimmers pick up their trophies and awards on Friday at the Wellington Swimming Club’s annual presentation night.
The auditorium of the Wellington Soldiers’ Club was filled with excited kids who had tried their best all season.
Swimming club president Rod Pedron was master of ceremonies and was accompanied by plenty of special presenters including Nat Barton, Ruth Arnold and Jenny Bourke.
“It was a pretty good roll-up for the night. Nearly all the kids who were receiving awards turned up for the presentation,” Mr Pedron said.
“The prizes were spread out really well this year, with a lot of different kids getting awards.
“Some years you’re just giving awards to the same few kids, so it was a pretty good night. Most of the kids walked away with something.”
The night kicked off with the presentation of lifesaving certificates by Ruth Arnold.
She was particularly impressed to be able to announce Jack Broome as the first disabled person since Ben Austin to achieve lifesaving qualifications in the Wellington Swimming Club.
Jack earned his water discovery certificate along with Rebecca Hyde, Tyra King, Liam Brien and Meg Smith.
The night wrapped up with the presentation of the inaugural Kevin ‘Bubbles’ Bourke Memorial Trophy, won by his daughter Shaye and presented by his wife Jenny.
“It was the last award for the night and everyone went quiet,” Mr Pedron said.
“It was a very special moment.”
With the season wrapped up, all that remains for the club is their annual general meeting, which will be held on June 2.
